Ethernet stopped working

HELP! The ethernet is not working any more, and I cannot find software update.

In the system information the incompatible kernel extension version does not read "Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data 3.28.1" but only version "2,13" in Yosemite in a Macbook air 2010?

Anymore? Can you elaborate on what's been tested and what hasn't been tested?

Has anything changed with this system recently? Added or removed software? Upgrades? Added or removed or changed network hardware? Added any tools that claim to optimize, protect, enhance, secure or clean OS X?

Are both the wired and wireless networks in different IP subnets, or is the Wi-Fi configured as a bridge?

With the Wi-Fi off, does a ping by IP address work? Use ping 8.8.8.8, for instance, to ping the Google DNS servers.

Can you post the output from Etrecheck?

In most cases, I'd likely load El Capitan, if I was going to change the software in response to this.

Dear MrHoffman,

Sorry to say, but I did not do any special tests. I wouldn't know how to do them.

I just received an update after changing from dear old Snow leopard to Yosemite and that's when it happened, no ethernet in the laptop after that. Now I read in the web that other people lost their Wi-Fi entirely so I am not that bad, but still I need the Ethernet connection each month.

But now, after your questions, I will check those things and the etercheck too. But I will wait until tomorrow because it is night here in Portugal.

Thank you.
